Scam Description
I was selling a scooter on Facebook marketplace. The scammer sent me a message through messenger and gave me a phone number to text because “he was rarely on FB”.
He said he was interested in the scooter and wanted to know if it would be okay if he sent me a cashier’s check overnight. So I told him yes and I got it a few days later but it was for $3,000 more than what he was supposed to pay. So I asked him what the extra money was for and he said that he was going to send a freight company to pick up the product and to give them the extra money for Freight. The next day I took the check to the bank and of course it was a fake. They were hoping I would go ahead and pay the people before the check cleared and I found out it was fake but luckily I caught it beforehand.
