Scam Description
I attempted to call Delta Airlines to book bereavement fares (unable to book online). Unfortunately, I’m always on the go and asked Siri to call Delta Airlines while driving. When an “agent’ named Angela got on the line, I asked “is this Delta Airlines?” She responded with “yes ma’am. How can I help you?” I explained that I needed to book bereavement fares. My mom spoke to Delta prior to my call, so I had an idea as to how much I should expect to pay. The amount of $785 that was quoted was not exact, but believable because rates change so rapidly. Right after we disconnected, I noticed 2 transactions on my statement; one from Delta Airlines for $690.40 and one from Travdel LLC for $95. Who is Travdel LLC right? Exactly my question. I immediately checked my tickets and I noticed that I was not in fact booked for a bereavement fare in main cabin, but for basic economy. I called her right away to cancel. I called Delta after speaking to Angela, who did confirm that the flights had been canceled; however, Delta advised me to call back to demand she refund the $95 that she charged as a third party agent back to my account. Every time I called her back she hung up on me. Finally, after my fourth call I got her to say verbally that she will refund me the total amount of $785. Unfortunately, when I checked my account, the $95 from Travdel LLC was posted to my account, while the $690.40 from Delta remained pending. I was then forced to submit a fraud claim with American Express.
