Scam Description

I am 80 years old. I got scammed on 9.7.22. I was at home about midnight. I was looking up medical stuff. My computer froze, and Microsoft warning flashed on my screen. I couldn’t shut off my computer. I called the number, a strange man answered. I hung up. Then I called McAfee. I was on hold. A nice man came on, Sam Smith, I gave him remote control of my computer. halfway through I figured out that I had called the wrong company. He wanted $1500 for protection. I agreed to a 6 month protection pkg for $119.95. I took a picture of my check and texted it to him. Then I was to mail it to him by 10am, and give him a tracking number, which I did. I shared my Social Security number. When I went back to my computer, there was a third party on my computer, he put an icon on my computer with a protection package with a welcome message. He told me he would call me once a month to check on how my computer was behaving. My customer ID number is HAOW4672. My bank stopped the check and closed the account. I took my computer to a repair shop.
