Scam Description
My computer suddenly stopped and an alarm went off – I was shown a phone number to call immediately. I re-started and the same thing came up. I called the number and they said they were Microsoft. They had very basic information about my computer – gave me my “Microsoft ID”. They showed me hundreds of hacks that had been done through a “Trojan Horse” – and said they could fix it all but it would take about an hour. I let them do the work – and after that, they said it would cost $199…which then changed to $200. I had no way to pay that at the moment so they agreed to take a post dated check for a week from that day. They said I had to call them to let them know it was okay to put the check through. I never did – thinking they would just do it on the day specified. They didn’t, and so I called and got a weird message about a system failure. They had said the bank account would show “InTech” as the company name – and that they were sub-contracted by Microsoft. When I looked it up there was the one I listed. These people were obviously in India, though…so I believe they are using the name of the US company that is real. I never called back and they have not deposited the check but I will alert my bank. In-Tech is the name and Revolusys is the payment system. I have not lost any money so far but they have my bank account numbers. I will probably have to change all of that.
