Scam Description

Someone claiming to be with “Publishers’ Clearinghouse” left a voicemail message on my elderly father’s phone and told him he won these prizes….$5 million dollars, $5000 a month for life, a Mercedes Benz, free gas for a certain amount of time, etc. Unfortunately, my elderly father thought this was true!
However, my sister told him it was a scam so a phone call was never made back to them.
When I called the number the caller had left, I told them I was calling for my father to claim the prize.(I acted interested to see what they would say) They said he was to claim prize within 45 minutes. When I said to the person on the phone that I knew this was a scam and how deceitful it was of them to prey on elderly people, the caller hung up.
Not sure what type of personal information they would have required of my father had he called back (ie. Credit card, social security number, etc)
Unfortunately I do not have an address for the caller…only a call back number that was left on the voicemail message. I’m just so tired of scammers taking advantage of the elderly!
