Scam Description

Earlier this spring, I purchased a car. Within a couple of months I began to receive odd letters in the mail. The most recent one is from “United Automotive Services” signed by Paul Frederick notifying me that i need to call the “toll free” number in the letter, give them my VIN, current mileage or otherwise my car factory warranty is about to expire (not true). The letter contains a QR code at the top, along with a fake Customer ID number. They top it off by saying they will revoke my eligibility for coverage if I do not meet their criteria by August 22, 2023.
Another type of letter was from the “Acura Vehicle Services Division” with a similar message requesting VIN info, and that my 2023 Acura coverage will expire. I never owned an Acura, but when I was car shopping I had visited a local Acura dealer to look at a car and get a quote.
I did not attempt to contact the letter issuers or scan the QR codes in the letters.
