Scam Description

I received a call at 8:06 a.m. on Wednesday morning from what appeared to be a 1-800 or 1-888 number but actually showed up in my phone log as a local number. The local # that showed up in my call log is 337-224-5950. The call sounded automated, informing me that it was Amazon and that my order for an iPad Pro and earbuds was to be delivered and the cost was mentioned….I believe it said $1200 (not sure of the exact amount) and told me to press 1 if something, something. I pressed 1 and the phone disconnected. Normally I’m not an idiot and as as a rule I do not answer the phone if it’s a number I don’t recognize but I’d just received notification for possible jury duty and assumed the call was in reference to that. I called the BBB and was told that if I received another call of this nature that told me to press 1, don’t. Pressing 1 tells the scammer that the number they called is a working number. You don’t want a scammer to know it’s a working number. My husband received a similar call a couple of weeks ago also purportedly from Amazon about a tablet. Needless to say, it was a scammer. If you receive an automated call saying it’s Amazon, please hang up and then call the BBB and report it. If you’re worried about your Amazon account, please call Amazon customer service and tell them about it. I did and they assured me that all was well with my account.
