Scam Description
After happily being a customer & receiving propane gas for ~6yrs, I started randomly receiving a notice for a tank rental fee(~25/mo.) with no previous balance owed.
They stated they had a contract with the previous owner of my home from an unspecified date they refused to disclose. When asked why I had not been notified that the tank was a rental over the previous 6 years of business I’d been with them they became agitated and dismissive then simply demanded payment. They ultimately ended up trespassing onto my property and taking the tank illegally. After involving the police and a lawyer, they were forced to return the tank free and clear. My new propane provider hooked the tank back up and filled it but asked why whoever provided the tank didn’t include a gauge. The new provider stated that it is negligent and unsafe to provide a tank without it as it’s used to safely manage the amount of gas going into the home and it would cost ~$300. Upon further research, Carolina Propane had been taken over by a new owner since the previous family owner died. The new owner is seemingly using any & all tactics to increase profits at the consumers expense. Please know this company is very unreasonable and is engaging in extremely unfair business practices. Buyer beware!
