Scam Description
I have completed the publishing of my first book. The publisher instructed me to go set up my account on Amazon KDP. When I couldn’t find it on the regular Amazon website, I did a web search. The first site appeared to be an Amazon site. The logo incorporates the Amazon logo. There was a form to fill out to get started. Within seconds a chat box populated and a conversation started. It was confusing. They told me there would be a fee for the printing of the paperbacks and to handle the e-book, and for marketing. They gave me a price & I was shocked. But I thought I didn’t have a choice if I wanted my book on Amazon. I took a few items off and then paid. They had me fill out a questionnaire and that was all that was done. Today in a conference call with my publisher, I found out that there’s no charge to upload a book to KDP. They get their fee from the sales price of each book. I immediately contacted them and asked for my money in full, as they had done no work and they deceived me. It wasn’t until I told them I was filing an FTC complaint that they agreed to return my money.
