Scam Description
I’m looking for a vehicle to purchase. I chose an ad that I saw on Facebook Marketplace. The ad stated that the listing came from Springfield IL, send a message to Saramorg73@gmail.com. I sent a message. A few days later, I received a response. The seller stated that she was selling a 2013 Honda Accord for $1,500. Shipping would be paid for. She was using EBay Motors to handle the transaction so she could stay out of it and that we both would be protected. No worries. She stated the car was in Bellvue NE. All you have to do is make the payment, the car would be delivered in 2-3 days with all of the necessary documents. Also, there is a 5 day inspection included. The buyer could have the car checked out to make sure that there was nothing wrong with it as she stated. She said she was selling the car due to her husband had recently died and the car reminds her of him. There was a number provided for eBay Motors. I called the number and spoke with a gentleman by the name of David. He assured that this was a legitimate deal. He also stated that the payment would be made through bitcoin. A bitcoin location was provided. Upon arrival, call eBay Motors to complete the transaction. I did so on 10-31-2022. Upon. Completing the $1,500 transaction, I received an email asking for an additional $1,000. This $1,000 was for delivery. When the vehicle is delivered, you will get $1,000 cas back. I stated that that was not agreed upon. I then asked for a refund, which it states that a refund could be issued by bank account, check or money order. I sent an email to this Sara Morgan, and she stated that she was sorry, this is a tax, she paid her part, now I have to pay mine. She also stated that eBay has rules, and she will not respond anymore. I never agreed to those terms. I only thought that a payment of $1,500 was due, the car would be shipped and I could register the car in my name. I was also led to believe that this was secure and safe, and that she would pay for shipping.
