Scam Description

I received an email from service@paypal.com that said someone sent me an invoice for $800. Odd because I was not expecting money, nor was I expecting to pay money.
I shrugged it off and deleted the email but went into my PayPal app to make sure. I’m the app there was an alert that said I got an invoice for $800. I clicked the a phone number IN the PayPal app and someone with a very thick accent named “Peter” picked up the phone and in a nutshell told me someone was trying to by bitcoin and if I did not change my IP address they would keep sending me emails like this one.
He said the invoice was coming from somewhere in Mountain View California (I don’t live in California) and had me type -my 1p address- in my search engine. He purposely had me click on the link that auto loaded -my 1p address California- which “showed the IP address being used.
He had me download an app so that he could help me change my IP address. I downloaded the app “Remote Desk Anywhere” and had me give him the number listed on the app. He was able to see my screen and was directing me what to type in and what to erase.
I was asking a lot of questions and it seemed to annoy him. It wasn’t until he told me to open my banking app to “make sure the money was still there” that I told him he lost his mind if he thought I would be opening my banking app while he could see my screen. We went back and forth with him “assuring me” he wouldn’t be able to see anything until he got frustrated and said exasperatedly “OH MY GOD!”. Then I cussed him out and hung up on him.
I consider myself pretty good at picking up on scams and this one ALMOST got me. Be careful y’all.
