Scam Description
Applied to a chat rep job for AIG on indeed and recieved an email from Mark Monticelli (mmonticelli@seaporttek.com) saying i had an interview and to download Wire app to do the interview. After a full day of questions and speaking with “John Repko” (aigcompany@usa.com) yesterday, I was told I got the job and was emailed W-4 form etc to fill out. Was told they would ship me a laptop and phone on which i would work. Then today I spoke with him again and he explained I would need to purchase a time tracker software that they would install on the laptop and emailed me a check for $2345 (stupid number) and was instructed to deposit the check, and that i would use the initial avaliable $400 to send to a 3rd party vendor for the software, which seemed like an inefficient way to set up a work computer if they were already going to send it to me… At that point i realized what was probably going on and that was when he instructed me to use zelle/cashapp etc to “send to the vendor “TDILL LLC” (fake company-the person’s real name linked to the zelle account is Tariff Ali Dill as I was able to find out) to purchase the software”. Im really confused why the initial email came from a legitimate looking company email (not that i checked at first for either) that had nothing to do with job recruitment. Fortunately I hadnt sent any critical information besides address, birthday etc, and I already know once i deposited the check the bank would flag my account, so I saved myself some trouble by doing some research once things started to seem very off. Be careful out there, it’s sad and pathetic that people pray on people like this.
