Scam Description

I applied for a Remote Data Entry Clerk/Customer Service/ Admin Assistant position job online and was contacted a few days later by text message from Brenda Peterson from Polygon International AB. I was instructed to download an app called Signal to do an interview with the HR Manager Wendy Keur. I did as instructed and proceeded with the interview in the instant messaging app. After the interview ended I was informed that I was hired for the position that was currently remote until the physical office opens up in Killeen, Texas on October 2, 2022. I was sent an email that contained a new hire packet of forms to be completed and returned. I was sent cashier’s check overnight for equipment that needed to be purchased. Upon receiving the checks I was informed that I needed to send payment to one of the companies vendors for the equipment needed for the position. I couldn’t pull up any of the vendors they suggested to send payment via Zelle. However, when all the money wasn’t made available I was instructed to go to the nearest Apple store to purchase Apple gift cards to use for payments. By the nearest Apple store being almost an hour and a half to two hours away she suggested that I wait until the following morning when all the money would be made available to obtain the gift cards. The next morning I saw that two of the cashier’s checks was on hold until a later date. I figured this was more than likely a scam. When I contacted Wendy Keur via the Signal App and informed her of the issue she acted very confused and stopped all communications with me.
