Scam Description
I have been watching for a job fitting for me on careerbuilder.com. I received a Priority 3-Day Mail package with a letter and an “Official Check” for $2,390.73 with my name printed on it. The letter asked me to cash the check immediately at my bank deduct my commission of $295.00. Then, “proceed to any Wal-Mart stores. Then shop groceries for your personal use and shop Wal-Mart Visa Gift Cards and not Wal-Mart Money Card. There have been complaints about rudeness of staffs, unprofessional behavior and lack of coordination. The business is competitive, and they are losing customers.” It gives an expenditure breakdown and a list of questions to send answers to via email. The letter also says “NOTE: KEEP THE WAL-MART VISA GIFT CARDS PURHCASED SAFE UNTIL YOU ARE TOLD TO MAIL IT TO VISA COMPANY HEADQUARTERS FOR PROPER INVESTIGATION. If $500 denomination Wal-Mart Visa Gift Cards are not available in any of the Stores, you are free to purchase $200 denomination Wal-Mart Visa Gift Cards.” The letter is signed by Adolph Kendall, Field Operations Manager, (908) 987-3208.
A few days later, I received a text message from (844) 966-3477 that said “Please process your Assessment Report in a timely manner to instantly receive your secondary assignment. In the event you are unable to purchase a Walmart visa gift cards, you may purchase a Vanila visa gift cards and use the same key points and scale to evaluate Wal-Mart or your chosen store.”
