Scam Description

On July 19, 2022, I received an email from Charles Bowman from Amerisleep HR telling me my profile looks like a good match for the Content Writer position with Amerisleep.
On July 21, 2022, I applied for the job on the Amerisleep website. On July 21, 2022, I received an email confirmation of the job application.
On July 28, 2022, Charles emailed me additional information about the job and how to request an interview.
On August 2, 2022, I interviewed with Dylan Gartin from Amerisleep HR through an app called WickrMe.
On August 5, 2022, I received a phone call from Kevin Flood a Texas Area Manager from Amerisleep to offer me the position.
On August 5, 2022, I received the offer via email from Charles Bowman.
On August 6, 2022, I accepted it and emailed it. Was told it would start on August 15, 2022.
From August 8, 2022, through August 18, 2022, I have been communicating with Dylan in the WickrMe app.
I was told by Dylan that the former IT department at Amerisleep formed their own company, and they handle the equipment and software for the Amerisleep employees. I would need to purchase it directly from them and send the money by Zelle, Venmo, Wire, or Apple Gift Cards. I was emailed a check for $3971.54 to pay for half of the equipment. I did a mobile deposit on August 9, 2022, a wire transfer on August 10, 2022, and then on August 11, 2022, the check deposit got returned. I was told by Dylan that the account it was drawn had some unusual activity and may have been closed. I was also told multiple times that I would get that money back to cover the wire – either by a direct deposit or ach credit. I did a wire recall with my bank on August 15, 2022 and haven’t gotten any notification from them. On August 22, I sent a private message Tweet to the beneficiary bank Capital One explaining all this. The last I heard from Dylan was August 18, 2022.
