Scam Description
I was contacted by an alleged hiring manager named Rosaline Howard who interviewed me over text via Microsoft teams. The position offered was a video editor position for the company Sid Lee. At first I had suspicions that the job might be too good to be true as it was offering $45 an hour during training and $50 an hour for regular work. However, the interviewer asked me questions for about 30 minutes via Microsoft teams which made me think that the position might be real. However, there were a lot of misspellings and the documents sent by the company were generic stock photos of professionals which did not match the company’s look and image. After the interview, I was contacted by phone by a new york number and interviewed very quickly by a man with a very thick, almost indiscernible Indian accent. He told me they were offering me the position but when I received the offer letter I was asked to provide personal information like a driver’s license scan and proof of work. They also specified that I would have to send in my laptop to install their software on it which was suspicious. What ultimately alerted me that it was a scam was when I checked their email address and it didn’t match the actual address on the company website. Sid Lee has an email that ends with @sidlee.com and the scammer email was careers@sidlee.us. Luckily they didn’t get much information from me but hopefully, this will prevent others from falling for this scam.
