Scam Description

I received a text to set up the Signal App to interview for a position for data entry; with Madison Phelps. After setting up the app I contacted her and she introduced herself by text as Madison Phelps, the Hiring Manager of Flatiron Health and that she would be conducting the interview. I was looking for remote work for data entry and thought this was how the process would be.
I did give her my name and phone number to start the interview. She gave me all the requirements for the position for a Remote Data Entry and the responsibilities which I was actively looking for on Career Builders and Indeed. Then she proceeded to give me the company mission statement about improving the lives of people with cancer. She said it would pay $20 while training for 2 weeks and then $25 per hour after that. I could chose my own hours and days as long as I got in 20 hours for pt or 25 for ft.
I proceeded to answer about 15 questions about work like strengths and weaknesses, exp in data entry etc. Regular questions for an interview.
After answering questions she made a comment that the company would send a check by email for me to use to buy equipment. I replied I was not comfortable with that and to just send me the equipment instead.
Offered me position and I signed the contract they sent through signal. I checked that it was from Flatiron and their New York address thinking it looked correct.
Next day she says tracker info is running behind and today 9/16 she has once again said they would just email me the check, asked questions about my bank, email etc. which I did not give her any further info.
I replied that if they couldn’t just send me the equipment since I did not want a check through my email or banking; I would look for other work.
She replied “alright no problem, I’ll get back to you soon”
Have not heard back and I am reporting this info so nobody else wastes their time or even gets caught up in this scam.
