Scam Description

This company reached out to me via email back in 2021 telling me that they could consolidate my loans or possibly pay them all off if I qualified for their “debt relief program”. At the time I made less than $20,000 a year and I qualified so they sent me some documents and asked for my previous tax returns from the year before. They set me up with a payment plan to pay off all of my student if I would make 5 payments of $199.80 per month, so just shy of 1K. They said if I made all of my payments on time that I would no longer have any student debt to pay back. After I completed all of the payments they told me thank you for my business and it would be taken care of. I left it at that. Fast forward to this year when I’m trying to buy a car, I check my credit score and find that my student loans are STILL THERE affecting my overall credit score. I called the Student Loan Department and the lady who I talked to over the phone was very confused after I explained to her what was supposed to have happened. She then tells me, “I’ve never heard of that company before but they’re not officiated with us at all. I don’t think you did business with a legitimate company. I would call them back and try to get a refund and also call your bank and report them for fraud.” I’ve tried calling them at their “office number” several times to get a refund and no one ever answers the phone. It’ll ring forever and then after a certain point their phone will just end the call and hang up on me. DO NOT GIVE THIS COMPANY ANY OF YOUR INFORMATION!
