Scam Description
They were terrifying. They had correct information about me but told me I had a credit card with capital one 20 years ago with a $3k credit line and never paid it. I was 18 20 years ago and remember one card but have never had one since and I have no clue what the balance would have been or any recolection of any card although it could have been possible. I mean who remembers what we did at 18? He said i was under judgement and if I didn’t pay the $3k I’d have to go to court and pay $10k total for the legal fees it would cost. But I could pay $200 today and set up a payment plan to pay it off. I said ok and then after questioning things he got even more aggressive and when I said I had to call capital one he said that could call but had to accept the offer in my email within an hour. Before an hour was up the document had been removed. The callback number he gave me was a different number than what was on their letterhead. I asked him his name a couple times and he finally told me Robert but then said he had already told me that a few times when he didn’t. The voice-mail i got was extremely aggressive but didn’t have any company info on it. They had me in tears threatening me and after speaking with capital one and my financial advisor I was told it was a scam and not to send them any money.
