Scam Description
the company contacted several 90+ year olds in Mountainside NJ claiming they were calling from Verizon. They stated that there was an issue with the network and that they needed to change the tv set boxes in the home or the service was going to be disconnected. They would be sending someone to pick up a check for $150 so that they could deliver the boxes. they would not take no for an answer. My mom, who was one of the recipients got all freaked out not realizing that Verizon would not cut service for failing to upgrade equipment.
She finally agreed to mail a check but had the sense to call me first and I was able to calm her down. She called a few friends about this, and several called her back later saying they got the same call and thanked her for the warning.
