Scam Description
An executive assistant to an emailed us to confirm that an individual called Amanda Walker worked for us. She does not, nor do we know who she is. The assistant let us know that Amanda Walker had reached out to the author about featuring her book in Bookshop Santa Cruz and arranging events. Again, Amanda Walker is a complete stranger and has no affiliation whatsoever with Bookshop Santa Cruz, but is posing as our manager and using an email address deliberately designed to suggest a connection with us (thebookshopsantacruz@gmail.com). Our General Manager reached out to walker asking her to stop posing as employee, and in response received an email from someone called Stephanie Morelli insisting that no deception was intended–which, is impossible given the explicit misrepresentation. Three other individuals have reached out saying that Amanda Walker, posing as a representative for Bookshop Santa Cruz had contacted them attempting a similar scam.
