Scam Description
On 10/26/2022 received a phone call from Support Nerds (?) saying that they need to check the security settings on my computer due to a issue with their servers not being able to connect to my computer. After installing program allowing them to access me computer, they said that there was a “server error” and they are refunding me $250.00, upon which I completed a refund form for that amount but it changed to $2,500. they also had me log on to my bank`s web site to see if the $2,500 was deposited which it was. I was then told that in order to unlock the computer to get 2 $500.00 gift cards for Target and they will call me back with further instructions. I called by bank and explained what happened, the back said that scammers use web pages that look like to real web page. The bank said that there was no deposit, and suggested to turn off the computer to break the connection which I did. Around 6pm this evening I received a follow up call informing me about the problem and to have them re- scan my computer, which I did not do. I have contacted and an awaiting a reply from HP to see if they have had any other issues with Support Nerds. I am wondering if HP contracts out there support services and did Support Nerds get hacked ? I am not going to have any further contact with Support Nerds this company is a scam.
