Scam Description

While installing a new version of Microsoft Word an error message appeared with a phone number. The man who answered represented himself as a third party security business who asked for remote control of my computer to identify while Microsoft Word could not be installed. I gave it to him and he showed me the website for ISecure which was a phone website but using the actual photos and bios of the owners of the real ISecure. He also showed me a phony BBB listing. Once I realized he was a scammer I tried to shut down my computer and could only do so by force quitting. Apple helped me remove the spyware he had installed and I reported this to the FTC etc. who suggested I call the company to alert them to the fraud. I called the number and I got the same man. I asked where his “company” was located and he said New Jersey. I started telling him I had reported him to the FTC and he hung up and immediately took down his fake website. Then I found the real I Secure website and spoke to the owner of the company. She said this has being going on for 6 months and he’s pulled this scam in three states.
