Scam Description
On 10/09/2022 I received an email that appear to come from Dicks Sporting Goods stating that I had been chosen to receive a YETI M20 cooler bag.
I proceeded to follow the link in the description not thinking that it was a scam since I had recently conducted a purchase at Dicks. The link led to a survey related to my recent purchase, once I completed the form I was ask to pay for the shipping of the goods, in my case it was $6.50. Not seeing the harm in paying for shipping because the survey was from a reputable company, I proceeded to pay the fee.
Shortly after completing the process I received an email from support@tryperfectshopdiscount.com with my “order confirmation”. I assumed all was ok and didn’t give it another thought for the next few weeks.
On 10/26/2022 I was going through my credit car charges and one in particular caught my attention. It was for $6.95 processed by a company I’ve never heard of before “advantage pro electronic”. I contacted my credit card company only to find out that this charge was for some sort of subscription. At this point I got very suspicious because I have no subscriptions open.
The credit card agent made a 3 way call to the company, the recording stated that our wait time was less than 2 minutes, after 3 or 4 minutes we agreed to hang up because there was no answer. The agent proceeded to cancel my card an issue a new one, this took place around 8:45 pm est, approximately an hour later I received an email from support@tryperfectshopdiscount.com stating that my order had been cancelled and the money had been refunded.
I’m not sure how they managed to refund my money so quickly, especially if the credit card agent and I were not able to make contact with the company. I made another attempt to reach the company on 10/27/2022 and the recording said the same thing, my wait time was less than 2 minutes, after waiting for12 minutes I decided to hang up. In a last ditch effort to reach the company I went back to the email that I used to fill the survey and found that it was managed by AWS (Amazon Web Services) but it has been shut down.
I hope that my experience helps others avoid this type of scams.
