Scam Description
I leased a building in Monroe to be used as a grooming salon.
The owner of the building knew I am regulated by the Dept. Of Agriculture
Which requires flooring impervious to moisture. He repeatedly assured me that the room I planned to use for a grooming room was impervious. I still covered it with sheet vinyl to further protect it.
He never told me that the laminate flooring he personally laid was laid over the cardboard the laminate flooring came in. He covered holes and gaps with the cardboard and taped it down .
Eventually moisture came through the holes along with compost bugs and the cardboard molded and mildewed. I got sick from the mold.
I have an email from him in March 2024 where he stated the laminate was waterproof.
He falsely represented the condition of the building and became upset when he found out I found the cardboard.
I was inspected by the dept of agriculture and failed on one thing: structural soundness. She took pictures of the floor and said he was trying to patch a bullet hole with a bandaid.
I believe he took advantage of me financially because he knew I was a senior citizen and thought I could be easily misled. I had to close the business and he is still trying to pursue me for unpaid rent. He caused me not to be able to pay the rent by his choices to go against city code to lay a cardboard floor , by misrepresenting the soundness of the floor.
I don’t know how many more people he will be deceptive with.
It’s a shame he chose deception over integrity . I have paid the price by being
Sick, losing my business, and having money demanded from me that I am unable to pay because of his deception.
Unfair business practices start a snowball of issues that will affect any tenant who falls prey.
I have wondered so many times how he can justify not accepting responsibility for his decision to deceive me.
