Scam Description
Got a call from a local number. It was from ” Linda Rodriguez” who claimed to work for Union County (the county I reside in) Processing Service and confirmed my name the last 4 of my Social. I didn’t give this to her…she already had it. She said that there was a pending law suit against me and they tried to serve me a summons but the first attempt failed. I said I had no clue what she was talking about. She said I would need to reach out to the Attorney’s office (Murdoch and Associates) to get them to re-serve the summons and she gave me a case number. I called the number and the guy said that there was a law suit against me and they ”the attorney’s office” was putting a lien against my home to use my home equity to pay for the law suit costs. I pressed him on the details of the law suit and he got angry and kept telling me he already told me and that I wasn’t listening. At this point I knew it was a scam but the part that bothered me was that he already had my full social. I never confirmed my SS# but he already had it ….before I ended call he was agitated and said “ok…First Name, Last name with Social Security number ***-**-****, I’ll notate your file that you were hostile and refused to resolve the issue”. I told him to take his scam somewhere else and ended the call. I immediately locked my credit access on all 3 bureaus. I believe this was either a phishing scam to get more info or confirm info in order to commit identity theft…or…they were going to try to “settle of out court” for a certain amount of money…but it never got that far. The number was 888-763-5507. I obviously did a Google search on that number but didn’t find much.
