Scam Description

Scammer called me posing as an officer from US Customs asking me if I was expecting a package from Mexico. I replied that I wasn’t, but I have family living there so maybe it was possible I’d get one. He then told me he was asking because the package contained illegal substances, and asked me again if I was aware of any package, to which I said no again. He asked if I had ever been to Mexico, to which I said yes, I had gone the previous January with my class. He asked me to get a pen and paper to write down some information: his name, (“officer Steven Boyer”), his badge (LM93505), and my “case number” (CBF84092). He asked me to repeat my case number back to him for verification and I was like, “….no, this whole thing seems weird, and I’m cautious about saying/repeating some things over the phone”. He then tried to placate me by asking me to look up the website for El Paso station for US customs. I did, and he recited their address and number back to me and asked me to wait one moment while he called me from their number. A minute later I got a call from their stations number (caller id showed the same number and US GOVTDHS BPS) and it was him, but I just wasn’t buying it so I hung up and redialed the stations number on my phone. One of the first things I heard on the line with the actual station was to hang up if you’re called by someone posing as an officer and trying to get you to reveal personal information. “Officer Steven Boyer” called me back several more times before giving up
