Scam Description
I received a call from a restricted number, and the caller left a voicemail providing a call back number (833-321-0023) and reference code (*******). The caller was apparently trying to reach my mother and said that if no call back was received by the close of business, the address (which was my address–not my mother’s) and place of employment would be deemed verified. I called the number and gave the reference code. The receptionist had my mother’s name and asked who I was. I redirected and asked who they were, and I was told Montgomery Law Group. When I asked what area of law they practice, I was told “civil matters” and when I asked what kind of civil matters, the receptionist gave some very vague examples, one of which was small claims. I happen to be a paralegal, so to me, it sounded like the receptionist didn’t know what she was talking about. When I continued to ask questions and refused to give my name, she tried to interrupt me by rattling something off, and then she hung up.
