Scam Description
There is a person called “Clara” who found me on a babysitting website (Care.com) looking to hire someone to babysit her daughter when they move from Tennessee to Rhode Island. She contacted me through Care.com with no specifics on what the job was and immediately said that using email would be better. She said that she would always need to type everything or have it through a monitor due to a health issue, hence why some of her texts/grammar are weird. She asked me things about myself like my age, address, photos–which she sent too–, occupation, relationship status, and a few contacts as references. She then said that she was going to buy some toys for her young daughter but that they would be delivered to me before they moved. She said she’d send me a check of $4,830 and that I would keep $500 as payment so the toys would be assembled by when they move in. On Thursday and over the last few days she has wanted me to transfer back all but $500 to her—the $500 would be assuring that I get the toys which are supposed to be delivered to me before they move in. Friday especially and Saturday a little she was bombarding me with texts and when I did send money, she wanted me to send a screenshot of the confirmation. She had me sending money through many platforms (zelle, Apple pay, cash app) using different usernames/accounts for each sight as she apparently doesn’t do her own finances, she has a financier. Finally, the $4,330 that she wanted me to send from the initial check amount went through, but now she’s saying she needs to borrow $860 from me.
