Scam Description
I got a call from an in-state number, which I answered in case it was my child’s school or a program of that sort. The man on the other end talked about student loan forgiveness and saving 80-90% on my student loan payments. I smelled a scam (because legit student loan companies don’t ever call you to save you money) so I asked if it was about the new forgiveness the government is going to offer. He said yes of course it was related to that, so I said I was waiting for the form to be available on the Dept. of Ed. website, and he offered to give me all the information to my email. I said I had it handled and hung up, because I wasn’t about to give this guy my email address. Reported & blocked on my phone. I never got to the part where he’d ask for money, so I’m not sure what his game was, but it definitely came off as a scam in progress.
