Scam Description
I googled “Etsy customer service phone number” and called. The operator told me to download “AnyDesk” so he could verify my identity. After allowing the “broadcasting” which allows whoever requested permission to see your screen, he asked me to open my PayPal and my venmo. While on my venmo page he tried to get me to purchase bitcoin, i refused to do that as it seemed super unrelated to my identity and so he said he had another way to verify my identity. He then told me to open my personal bank account. I then questioned why i would open my bank account while using “AnyDesk” since he can see my screen to which he told me that he cannot see my screen even though that’s exactly what you agree to when you use and agree to the app. I used Etsy’s customer service chat after i hung up on him and they confirmed that this is NOT how they would do anything when it comes to “verifying” an identity.
