Scam Description
The number on the phone was Bank of America’s 1-800 number. It matched the bank’s actual main number. The person said they were from the Fraud Department and reported that an on-line checking account had been set up along with a line of credit in the targeted person’s name and asked for verification. They also stated a transaction via Zelle was about to processed for $3000 in 10 minutes against the account. They said they would close the account and gave a cancellation code. Then they said another code was required to cancel the Zelle transaction and wanted to walk the targeted person thru how to do this via the Zelle application. The scammer had a Hispanic accent.
