Scam Description

We were looking to have our house painted this summer, on point painting was recommended to us via the Nextdoor app. I contacted the number and spoke with Sean who came out to give us an estimate the first week of June. He said we would need to make a deposit to hold our spot, we submitted the deposit using PayPal. He said the money was not touched until he started the job. Since having the estimate we tried reaching out several times to find out when we would be scheduled and let the company know what color we picked. We were never able to get ahold of anyone.
In August we received a phone call from a lady named Mellisa starting that Sean would be starting the paint job at the end of the month. The end of the month came and went and no one showed, no one contacted us letting us know they would not be there or why they did not show. I tried calling, texting, and emailing and was unable to get ahold of anyone.
We then received a phone call from Mellisa again at the end of September stating they would be here the first week of October. Again no one showed, and we were unable to get ahold of anyone.
Worried the job was not going to get done this year and having no communication with anyone, we asked Mellisa to let Sean know we would like our deposit back.
Weeks went by and we have not received our money. Sean then sent me a nasty text stating we were not getting our deposit back.
There is no signed contract and the company refuse to give us our deposit back.
Work was never completed, there was zero communication and we lost over $300.
