Scam Description
Man comes to your home in car which has magnetic sign on its door: “TreeMan Express”, also shares a flyer (only has work ph#, no business address). If you let him walk you about your property to point out trees you may want to have removed, he will then give you a price. If accepted, he then asks you to sign a contract and pay half upfront. (The contract form is generic–no specific business logo or legal details.) He returns couple hours later to say his truck is broken and hauled to shop, but if you can pay him the full amount that he can then pay for its repair and be back next week to do the job. Then he comes back a couple of hours later saying he needs to include charge for haul-away truck. (Makes no sense as he wrote “good clean up!” on contract.) Then he calls a couple of days later saying the transmission repair will cost him more– if he can please borrow [amount], he can then get truck repair complete, then will be able to do the job and repay you the extra borrowed. Guy says he’s insured, but neighbor also contacted (who smartly) by Treeman called his insurance company, the representative “just sighed” in response.
