Government Grant Scam

Business Name Used

George Williams

Date Reported

Aug 20, 2022

Victim Postal Code

90810

Total Dollars Lost

$3,300.00

Scam Description

I was initially called by people who I believe are pretending to be agents of the HHS that told me that I was going to receive a federal grant for $15,000. I was then transferred to a person who I firmly believe is a scammer pretending to be an agent of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He then told me that in order for me to receive my grant money, I need to purchase eBay giftcards to pay for fees regarding a registration fee, a state tax fee, an IRS fee, a Treasury fee, and a FTC fee. With all of these fees, I have lost $3,300 of my own money with no grant money received in my bank account. He also said that I would have my money donated to the American Red Cross, against my will if I didn’t come up with the money or did not do anything with my file. George Williams’ manipulative behavior have made me nearly max out 2 credit cards with no grant money given to my account, and has left me distressed with an outstanding amount of money lost.
