Scam Description
I applied for a Customer Service Rep. position through Indeed.com, supposedly for Cooper Eye Care, LLC. This morning, I received a text and an email from people calling themselves Mrs. Gina Wilson and Mrs. Vanessa Conenna. The body of each message was identical. I was congratulated on my interview (never had one) and directed to download the Signal Messenger App from Google Play in order to contact Mrs. Conenna, who was purported to be a Hiring Manager. Something seemed off about the messages, so I looked up Cooper Eye Care. The company is a small chain of vision clinics in the New York City area. They did not seem likely to be looking for remote CSR’s on a part-time or full-time basis. A closer look at the email address from which the invitation was sent, along with the fact that the email ended up in my spam folder, confirmed that I was looking at a scam. I then Googled “Cooper Eye Care Gina Wilson” and the first item listed was the BBB Scam Tracker, so I decided to share my experience.
