Scam Description
I am currently unemployed and looking for a job. I was on LinkedIn and applying for Data Entry Clerk positions. The next morning, I received a text and email from a lady by the name of Lisa George. She said that she had received my application from LinkedIn and had sent me an email requesting my resume on the 21st of October. After I sent my resume, she said she reviewed it and sent me further details about the job and asked if I was interested. I said that I was and she sent me an online interview questionnaire and test and employee form where I told them my name, address, date of birth, and where I banked. On the 24th, I was sent a job offer. I signed and sent back the job offer. She sent another email stating that she’ll need my full name, date of birth, home address, cell phone number, and preferred email address for their administrative desk. She had made me an account on the company website and requested that I make a Telegram account so that we could communicate there. I signed in and nothing seemed out of the ordinary and I made the Telegram account. She said that she’ll need me to order my office equipment and that she’ll message me when the accounting department sends her a check. At this point, I haven’t signed any new hire paperwork, done a background check, or even did the identity verification process before they’re sending me a check. I let Lisa know that I was concerned about this and she said that the identity verification process will happen after I order the equipment and that new hire paperwork can only be done on the laptop I order. I decided that this seems way too sketchy and that this sounds exactly like a work-from-home scam that has been going around for years.
