Scam Description
Received a text message from 206-804-2626 saying it was an urgent matter and I had to call 945-293-6710. So I called that number, and he immediately answered and asked why my number comes through as anonymous (work phone), and I told him not to worry about it, which he didn’t like. I repeatedly asked him what this was regarding and what company he was with, and it took him a while to provide an answer. He then said he was from Account Recovery Services, and that they were calling regarding a $500 loan at either Go cash or ez money cash services that had never been paid. My first comment was that it was a scam, as I’d never had a loan at either place, and he essentially said whatever, they’re probably going to take me to small claims court. Then he also claimed someone in my household likely used my name to get the loan…um, ok. He claimed to have last 4 of my social, access to my pay stubs, and my DOB, although he was slightly evasive when I pressed him for more answers. He claimed the ‘loan’ had been taken out prior to 2015, and when I asked why I’m only being contacted now and why this hadn’t been turned over to credit bureau he had no answer. I told him I would take down his info, do some research, and get back to him. He also said that the ‘debt’ would likely not be turned over to the credit bureau, but that they would likely sue me, and during the call he also atttempted to get my credit card info to pay the debt, and then offered a ‘settlement.’ He said his name is Paul , he provided me with an account number, and said I should call him back at 877 749 8987.
