Scam Description
At the beginning of September, I saw a report on the news about an elderly man that received a bill for a home warranty that had ‘expired’ . He sent the amount and was out the money. That week, I received what appears at 1st glance as a check for $199. and my property ID with my lender information stating that my Home Warranty may be expiring or has expired and that this would be the FINAL ATTEMPT TO NOTIFY me to get the warranty UP TO DATE. Since I had already seen the report AND I also know that I have never bought a Home Warranty, I did NOT bite. I studied the check and it had no routing number and no name of company on the upper left corner of check. The name of my lender was abbreviated, the envelope did not have a return address AND the stamp was they type that LOOKS like something the IRS uses with an eagle.
