Scam Description
The person who called identified themselves as working for the Yolo County Assessor’s office and said that they had a deed of trust which I recently submitted for filing. They asked who the beneficiaries were as stated in the trust that was set up. I simply said that the “kid’s” were named as beneficiaries because I was already suspicious. She told me that the change was going to trigger a reassessment of the property. I stopped her at that point and told her I would be contacting my attorney.
I called the publicly posted phone number for the Yolo County Assessor and was told that they do not make phone calls like that and that it was unquestionably a scam. I don’t know if they were going to ask for personal information or if they were going to ask for money but be aware that people are making phone calls like this.
