Scam Description
The scammer, who has two names on his driver’s license, Benabe Caceres and Luis Evangelista, called me after I sent an email inquiry about a 7-month old Yorkie female named Bella. He identified himself as Luis with Eiling Yorkies Home. I had put my phone number on the email in case he had questions or wanted to speak with me. He said if I could come tomorrow, he would not ask for the usual reservation fee of $250. After looking at flight options, I called a friend who lives not far from Kissimee and asked if he was willing to pick up the pup for me the next day, and he said that he would. So I called Luis back and he said no, that if anyone else but me came for the puppy, I would have to pay a reservation fee of $250, and if I did not, he would adopt the puppy out to another family. I didn’t understand this, as my friend would show up in the morning with cash, to get the puppy. So I told him I will fly there tomorrow. Then he tried to convince me to allow the puppy to be shipped to me for $200, which would be cheaper than my flight cost. I called my friend back to tell him it wasn’t going to work for him to pick up the puppy, and he immediately felt suspicious that this was a scam. He googled the phone number Luis had called me from, and found this scam report on the BBB Scam Tracker. I backed out without sending money.
