Scam Description
I was on a Facebook page looking for a house for rent in the Omaha Nebraska area and she left me a message saying that she had some properties available in the area. She asked how many rooms and how much I could afford. She sent me some photos of a house for sale she said she was willing to rent instead. She sent me a link to fill out an application, which I did and it had a $50 application fee, which I paid through Cash app. She then continued to ask for an additional $100 for the other adults on the application, to which I responded that my husband and I wanted to see the house and make sure us was all legit before sending any more money. She stated it was all legit, that her husband owns the property and she is a private landlord. She also stated that she could show us the house once the application process was complete after the other money was received. The first cash app address I sent the $50 to failed. She sent me another cash app address which was successful. At this time my husband was in Omaha and drove by the property where he saw a Berkshire Hathaway sale sign. I contacted Berkshire Hathaway and gave them her name, which they have never heard of before.
My husband offered to stay for the public walkthrough that was taking place that day. I told this to Sara and she said we couldn’t attend until after the application process was complete. I then informed her that I gave her name to Berkshire Hathaway and that they have never heard of her. She stated it was ok, she has a name and a reputation to uphold.
I then blocked her and let CashApp about the scam and requested a refund. No refund has been received at this time
