Scam Description
I applied for a graphic design position on Indeed.com. A person by the name of Will Bryant reached out to me through email with detailed information about creating artwork for a COVID-19 education project he was working on. They gave examples and offered to sign contracts, paying upfront after seeing some of my work and agreeing to work together. I began designing them pieces and they refused to give any feedback on the artwork, later they said there was a Phase 2 of this project and they wished for me to take it on as well. I agreed, and they then sent a cashier’s check of 13,600 for a total payment for both phase 1 and phase 2 of the agreement. After cashing the cashier’s check at my local bank, they later said phase 2 was delayed and asked for a refund of 6,800. After clarifying with my bank, they stated the check never went through and had indeed been returned to the sender. The tracking number that was used for this cashier’s check is #9405581589978627940071. This person operated within a reasonable manner for freelance graphic design work and while I was impressed by the charge amount, they volunteered information that led me to believe it could be legitimate work. Especially with a fake indeed profile.
