Scam Description
Only chose the other category for this due to the fact that this scam covers both the fact that it’s a fake job offer but also because it is pretending to be an actual valid company at the same time. Found a job offer on indeed that was originally offering like anywhere from $20-$25 for a remote data entry position and as part of me mass applying, they responded after about 2 days. Initially I followed along for the most part since it seemed promising and great but after speaking to an “HR Manager” and having him over the course of two days talk to me I gathered enough information to realize this was a scam. Aside from having me download a private messaging app named Signal to get in contact with the make pretend dude named Jason Scott, after listening to a few spiels they sent me a list of equipment I would need to buy but said that they would mail in a check for $8000 to buy and set up a mini office for myself. I searched around online and found out other scam job postings are using the exact same list of hardware and software to buy for the mini office. For those looking at this the list is like a bunch of Apple branded stuff specifically and then a list of like software programs for accounting like Xero, Sage, AccuMial Frameworks, Data-scan by Neoptec and more. They already decided to send me a check in the mail so I’m definitely gonna check with its home bank to watch it bounce
