Scam Description
We hired Unity Events and Services (from Ashton, Maryland) to run a 360 photo booth for our daughter’s Sweet 16 birthday party.
Total was $400 and we paid half up front ($200) and communication was good up until the day of.
On the day of, we don’t hear from them. An hour into the party, no word.
We call, text, email, send messages on social media, with no response.
In fact, the phone number and email they provided was out of service.
So, after 30 minutes of trying to get in touch, we decided to continue celebrating with our family
Later that night (around 1 AM the next day actually), we filed a complaint with our payment processor who managed the payment for their services.
The next day (today ??), their phone number was back online, probably because they assume people won’t follow up the next day (we do).
We sent them a text informing them that we have consulted a lawyer who will begin legal proceedings and that they would be facing jail time, all over $200.
Of course, they quickly refunded the money, after telling us they had a “family emergency” (which of course is a lie).
The complaints were already in process. In addition, I went to their social media pages and filed scam reports. They quickly took their pages offline.
All that to say: They messed with the wrong people and we will make sure nobody works with them.
(Unfortunately, there are many companies that use the “Unity” name, so ensure you are using the right one).
