Scam Description

I called to activate my Penfed Credit Union Credit card and I misdialed it. However, I received a typical recording along with an offer for a $100 voucher. If you wanted the voucher, you selected #1 on your phone, and then I was directed to a person. They asked for personal information, including my date of birth, and address, and proceeded to ask about my card information. I hung up. This number is not associated with Penfed in any way, and I believe they were a scam. He tried to explain to me why they needed all of this information for the voucher and went into great detail about how this would be illegal for him to be scamming anyone. The number I dialed was 877-856-9650. The correct Penfed number is actually 877-856-9690. I would hate for this to happen to someone like myself, who almost gave away all of my personal info. As it stands, I canceled the card.
