Scam Description
I received a call today from a man who had an accent. He said he was with American Electric Power and that he would shut off the power today if he did not receive $460 within 30 minutes. I panicked and logged online to my bank through my phone. He transferred me to the disconnect department. Another man talked me through how to pay him with Zelle. He was very nice and helpful. The money was sent to Reginald Ford, “the head of the department who handles disconnects”. My bank is going to contact the bank who received the funds to see if they would return the funds, but they were not very hopeful about it. I called AEP and they told me to file a police report.
