Scam Description
A message was left on my answering machine from Comcast saying we qualify for a discount on our services. The number left to call was 855-630-2836. When calling this # which has the exact same recording as the real Comcast/Xfinity, I spoke with someone named Joel Carter who offered me a deal for 1/2 off our cable at $120. a month. for 2 years. Also included were 2 premium channels. When it came time to sign up, he told me that Target was sponsoring this special deal. Therefore, it was required that I pay 4 months in advance. Since it was Target, I had to pay that with a Target charge card or Target gift card. He told me if I do this in 2 hours that I would qualify for $80 in rewards money as gift card. He gave me a Reference # XFI0000567 and told me to call 1-866-542-8913 and go to billing. I went to Publix and got a Target Gift card for $480. Called the # which also had the same Comcast/Xfinity recording and I gave them the # off the Target card. Gave me a payment reference # PR1214M69A. Thinking I had made a great deal I went to watch the premium channels I selected, and they weren’t available. That is when I got suspicious and logged on to comcast and didn’t see any changes to my account. That is when I called the “real” Comcast and was told I was scammed. I called the # on the Target card and it was cashed within an hour of this all happening in a town in Nevada. So, I am out $480, and I am glad I didn’t sign up for a Target credit card like they wanted me to do. I hope this helps keep others from going through what I did.
