Mary “Ann” Marshall
MEXICO – Mary Ann Marshall, 86, of 103 Granite St., Mexico, passed away on Dec. 15, 2022 from cancer.
Ann was born Jan. 5, 1936, in Chisholm (Jay), the daughter of Francis “Pete” and Jeanne (Doiron) Ouellette. She attended Catholic school at St. Rose of Lima and was salutatorian for the class of 1953 of Jay High School.
Ann was a business owner/accountant with husband Roland, opening Marshall’s Phillips 66 full-service gas station in 1969 at the top of Falls Hill in Rumford. In 1984, she opened Rolann’s Ice Cream Shoppe next door. She taught her employees to treat every customer with respect and always smile, as you never know who may interview you in the future. She enjoyed mentoring her student workers, who would return each year.
Active in the community, Ann sang at St. Theresa’s Church functions in Mexico; served as president of the Mexico Athletic Boosters; and ran for a house seat in the state legislature, all while following her children’s and grandchildren’s various sports activities, high school concerts and plays. Ann especially enjoyed dancing at the American Legion in Dixfield up to the last month of her life.
A mother of seven, Ann had a deep caring and love for all children. Ann hosted and prepared all the food for the Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays for her family, which grew substantially over the years. Everyone felt welcome in Nana’s home.
As busy as she was, she found time for vacations with Roland in Aruba, Hawaii, Las Vegas and Florida.
She is survived by her seven children, Michael Marshall and Suzanne of Bryant Pond, Robin Marshall and Lisa of Dixfield, Kim Marshall and Susan of Mexico, Lee Marshall and Lynne of Topsham, Sheila Mills and Chris of South Portland, Lynn Moroney and Michael of Little Rock, Ark., and Jamie Marshall and Karen of Kissimmee, Fla. She has 22 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Roland; and three siblings, Gerald Ouellette, Geraldine Ross and Patrick Ouellette.
A private family funeral service will be held.
Tributes and condolences may be shared in her book of memories at http://www.wilesrc.com. Service arrangements are in the care of the Wiles Remembrance Center, 308 Franklin Rd. (Route 133), Jay.
